Here is the sewing pattern for our Zero Waste Caftan!
It's no big surprise to those of us who sew, or work in the fashion industry, to hear that there are billions of pounds of textile waste polluting our beautiful Earth! While much of that waste comes from mega fast fashion companies, it still feels good to know that we are doing our part to help keep her clean. One of the ways that we can help keep our environment healthy, and still express our creativity is through Zero Waste Design. In this type of design, the designer plans out the garment using every inch of the fabric. This usually takes some creative problem solving, but is a fun challenge!
Here we've used Zero Waste Design to create a caftan that is simple to sew, fun to wear, and not too fussy about sizing! This garment can be sewn in a range of fabrics and for a range of occasions. The grey linen that was used in an example makes a more casual and cooler weather garment. On the other hand, the nude tulle that was used, and then embellished with scrap fabric flowers and pearls, is something that could be worn for a special occasion or event! Play around with different fabrics you have on hand, or pick out something from our store, it only takes 2 yards!
