How to Sew with Knits - On a Home Sewing Machine!

Do you want to sew with knits? Do you want to make your own t-shirts, leggings, or maybe even swimsuits, but you find knits hard to work with or are intimidated by just starting? Then this is the perfect class for you! Here we will be discussing and practicing how to properly sew with knits on a home sewing machine!

In this class we will be going over the different types of knit fabrics, threads, needles, and other tools that make sewing with knits easier! We will also be practicing the different knit stitches on your machine by showing you their correct applications and techniques. We will go over trouble shooting issues that arise, and show you how to fix them. Additionally, we will test the different knit stitches for plain seams, different styles of topstitching, hems (and with a double needle!), buttonholes, and faux serger finishings.

It will be best to bring your own sewing machine, so we can identify which of your stitches are the knit stitches, and so you can write down the settings that give you the best results. However, if you can't bring yours, or if yours only does a straight stitch - then you can use our classroom machines! We provide the fabric swatches, and the needles; if you could bring your own thread (polyester is preferred) and make sure your standard sewing foot is on your machine.

We ask that the minimum age is 8 years old - if you have a kiddo younger we are happy to teach them in a private lesson! Just contact us to learn more!
