Your Fabric = Book Covers = Custom Journal

Join us on August 8th and 9th to make a hardcover book out of your OWN fabric!

Make a handmade book covered in YOUR FABRIC! Whether it’s for recording your daily thoughts, a sketch pad, or your favorite recipes; we can all use a journal. And what would be better than a journal you have made yourself! Or maybe as a gift for another. Perfect to tuck into a pocket, purse, or backpack; this little book will be distinctly your own.

In this class we will be learning how to make book cloth from your fabric, then adhering it to book board, and then finally stitching in all the pages. The best choices for the cloth/fabric are cotton or other tight wovens. Highly textured, slippery/satin, and knit
fabrics are not good choices. You could choose a fabric that has special meaning to you or just use up scraps! You will need two pieces of fabric each 10” x 7” for your book
covers.

Your finished book will have 100 pages, using 80 lb drawing paper, and will measure 8
¼” x 5 1/8”. We will use the Coptic and Long Stitch designs so all your pages will lay flat when opened.

This is a two-day class: Friday, Aug 8th, 4:00pm - 6:30pm and Saturday, Aug 9th, 10:00am -1:00pm.

This class is open to all skill levels and no previous bookbinding experience necessary. This is a class for adults and young people, not appropriate for young children. Sharp objects will be involved.

Supplies:

All specialty book making supplies and tools will be provided. You will need to bring or buy some fabric for the cover; you could choose a fabric that has special meaning to you
or just use up scraps! You will need two pieces of fabric that each measure 10” x 7”.
