Do you have a sloper and not know what to do with it? Then this class is for you! In this class you will learn how to turn your bodice sloper into a fitted torso sloper, and then how to turn that into a blazer pattern with a shawl collar. You will also learn how to turn a sleeve sloper into a two piece suit sleeve.
After this class is over, you will have a sewing pattern for a blazer like the one pictured that is sure to fit you just right! You will also have a fitted torso sloper that is helpful for other jacket, coat, and dress patterns. You will learn about how to move darts, truing patterns, and marking grainlines. These skills will be super helpful as you continue your patternmaking journey either with more classes from Maya or on your own!
A sloper is the basic building block of a pattern. It is the starting place of how all patterns are drafted. The sloper is made to measure so that the resulting pattern fits the wearer. For this class you will need a sloper front and back bodice and a sleeve. If you have not previously taken my sloper drafting class, please reach out to me at maya.f.jones9@gmail.com before signing up so that I can assess your experience level and determine if this class is a good fit for you.
Some prior experience in drafting is recommended.
Supplies: You will need to bring your own drafting materials, including: a measuring tape, rulers (a straight ruler, and a French curve, hip curve, and/or shoulder curve), patterning paper (able to be seen through is recommended for tracing off your slopers), paper scissors, pencils, erasers, and tape. You will also need to bring your front and back bodice slopers, and your sleeve sloper. If you have a copy of your measurements, this can be helpful to bring as well. If you don't have these supplies, they are available for purchase at the shop, and there are some available for classroom use as well.
Time: This class will meet for four hours and there’s a lot to get to! Feel free to bring something to drink and/or a non-messy snack!
