Welcome to the world of buttonholes! Whether they are done on a machine with an attachment, a bound buttonhole for a wool coat, or a handsewn tailored buttonhole for a bespoke blazer, we are here to teach you the ins and outs!
In this class we will teach you three different types of buttonholes, and go over other helpful tips and tricks to get them laying perfect every time.
The first buttonhole will be one done by machine. Many machines have attachments that come with them and we will teach you how to use them to create your different styles of buttonholes. And not to worry, if your machine does not have a buttonhole attachment, we will teach you how to create one with just your zig zag foot!
The second buttonhole will be a traditional bound buttonhole. These can be done by machine or hand, but for the class they will be done by machine. These give a very classy and professional look to coats, blazers, and more. Once you figure these out, they may be your new favorite!
The last buttonhole we will be practicing is the tailored. These are sewn by hand, and typically with thicker, or decorative thread. If you are into heirloom, historical, or bespoke sewing - these are a great skill to have in your arsenal.
We will be doing each of these buttonholes as test samples on a variety of fabrics, and all thread and supplies will be provided. To better get to know your machine, we ask that you bring your own and your buttonhole foot. However, if that is not possible, we have machines here that you will be able to use.
We ask that the minimum age is 8 years old - if younger we ask that an adult attends with them! Or we'd also be happy to do a private lesson! Just contact us to learn more!
